Medical

Where ever you are in your medical career, Wairarapa DHB has something to offer.

At the start of your career, Wairarapa provides an excellent setting for consolidating and extending your learning, with supportive, approachable staff committed to your development. As a smaller, rural District Health Board, junior medical staff have sometimes been ambivalent about their rotation to the Wairarapa, but many have returned over subsequent years, having found the experience broader and more stimulating than they anticipated. Ease of access to specialist advice is a feature of our training programme.

When you have chosen your specialty, our senior medical team welcome you whether as a short or long-term appointment. You will find opportunities for both public and private practice, through Selena Sutherland Hospital, a private surgical and outpatient facility co-located with Masterton Hospital.

Your input into credentialing, audit, research and teaching is encouraged and appreciated. You will enjoy the supportive relationship with colleagues in neighbouring DHBs, whether through joint teaching and learning initiatives, tertiary transfer of patients, or specialist advice.

Whatever your position, you will enjoy the opportunities of a Wairarapa lifestyle, along with a friendly supportive workplace.

Medical Advisor Mr Alan Shirley is both a member of our senior management team, and of the Clinical Board.

And, of course, with the building of our brand new hospital, and developing the services it will house, this is an exciting time to be joining us!
