In March 2006, our new $30 million Wairarapa Hospital was completed, and now houses a full range of secondary health services for the Wairarapa region.
The building and change programmes were a strategic response to the health needs of Wairarapa's changing and ageing population. Although there will always be an ongoing need for acute hospital services, advances in medical technology mean many patients can now be treated in daycase or outpatient units. Many patients now spend less time in hospital and benefit from faster recovery times, or manage most of their health care from their own environments.

Now that the main building is complete, Wairarapa DHB has determined the extent of the land it needs to retain for current and future use, and is engaged in the process of seeking to declare the remainder or the land surplus to their requirements. See the links below for more detail.
