The $30 million project to redevelop our hospital and services has now been launched. By March 2006 we will have a completely new hospital, including fully digital radiology and the latest developments in electronic medical record access . Making the most of natural light to create a pleasant environment, this new single storey building will be unique in Australasia for both its innovative design and the construction materials used. Wairarapa DHB actively supports continuing education and professional development. Your colleagues in neighbouring DHBs in Hutt Valley, Wellington and Palmerston North provide tertiary and visiting services, and are actively supportive during referral or transfer of patients. There are opportunities for joint clinical involvement in audit, clinics and teaching.

Location. Capital city Wellington is a train ride or a 90 minute drive via the Rimutaka Hill Road, giving easy access to national and international transport links, cultural and sporting activities. University city Palmerston North is less than an hour's drive away.
New hospital. The building programme isn't the only positive development happening at WDHB. We're also working through an exciting change process with staff, to ensure they are fully involved in both facility and service design. It's fair to say our User Group process has captured many of the features suggested by staff that will make our facility and services uniquely suited to our community.
